How to get your file
Your file comes from studentaid.gov, and you download it yourself — Clevara never logs in or retrieves it for you. It takes about 5 minutes.
- 1Go to studentaid.gov and select Log In at the top of the page, then sign in with your FSA ID.
- 2Open the My Loans page in your account’s aid information.
- 3Select Download My Aid Data at the top right of My Loans.
- 4Follow the download prompts and save the file.
- 5You get a plain-text .txt file — that is the file to upload here.
No FSA ID yet? Create one here. Creating an account takes about 7 minutes and needs your Social Security number and an email address.
On a phone
- iPhone (Safari): the file saves to Files. To upload, choose Browse → Files and pick the saved .txt.
- Android (Chrome): the file saves to Downloads. To upload, pick it from Downloads.
- The file is analyzed in your browser and is not uploaded to a server.
Trouble?
- Nothing downloaded? Complete the prompts on the Download My Aid Data screen and check your browser’s downloads.
- Is this the right file? It is a plain-text .txt data export, not a PDF statement from your servicer.
- “Couldn’t read the file”? Re-download from My Loans → Download My Aid Data — a servicer PDF or a screenshot will not work.
